Ramadan in Albuquerque
Welcome to Presbyterian Ear Institute Oral School, a small, private, non-profit school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing are learning to listen and talk. During the first week of November the children, ages 4-6 years of age, participated in activities related to Ramadan, in order to learn about and appreciate the culture of one of their classmates. The children and staff delighted in the week's cultural experiences, as noted in the photographs! |

LEARNING AND SHARING |
[cont] During the week the children participated in activities such as a moon-sighting, hand-painting, creating their own head scarves and trying on different types of clothing from the Middle East, talking about reasons for fasting, learning Arabic greetings, and learning how their Islamic friend prays. The week culminated in a feast which included Middle Eastern recipes made by the children themselves: fruit kabobs, cresent rolls, and halvah.
Ramadan Mubarak! |

Hadith Qudsi 9 On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said, Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:
The fist of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded: and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, the Lord (glorified and exalted be He) will say: See if My servant has any supererogatory prayers with which may be completed that which was defective in his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his actions will be judged in like fashion. related by at-Tirmidhi |
