GIRL SCOUTS TROOP 786
The ICNM Girl Scouts Troop 786
Troop 786 is a fun organization that allows Muslim girls, ages 5-12 years, to meet other Muslim girls who share their interests. They will develop a wide range of skills relative to Islam and principles in Islam. The program enables each girl to maximize her full potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect; strengthen values to guide her action and provide the foundation for sound decision making; and contribute to the improvement of society through the use of her abilities and leadership skills, working in cooperation with others.

The Girl Scouts Troop 786 Co Troop Leaders, Sr. Zulfar and Sr. Suzanne, took the Scouts on a fishing trip to Shady Lakes. This field trip allowed the Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts to work toward earning the Eco-Explorer Badge.

The photos above show Girl Scouts Troop Leaders Sr. Zulfar and Sr. Suzanne with the Troop at Shady Lakes (left). The Girl Scouts fishing (center). By the end of the day, each Scout caught about 2-3 fishes each! And, at left, Troop Leader Sr. Suzanne helping Girl Scouts with placing bait onto the fishing hook.

By earning the Eco-Explorer badge the Scouts had a few activities to complete. One arts & craft project the Scouts did to prepare for the trip was making visors to wear while in the sun. Some activities at the lake were fishing and taking a nature walk. The Troop Leaders led the Girl Scouts on a nature walk around the lake, exploring and identifying living and non-living creations. Additionally, the Scouts learned about various animals and their different habitats.

The Girl Scouts also had a hadith lesson on the extension of Islam's universal mercy to animals. They learned that the universal mercy of Islam embraces not only human beings, whether unbelievers, People of the Book, or Muslims, but all other living creations of Allah as well. Accordingly, they learned that Islam prohibits cruelty to animals. Thirteen hundred years before any preventions of cruelty to animals were established, Islam had made kindness to animals a part of its faith and cruelty to them a sufficient reason for a person to be punished.

With the help of parent volunteers, the trip was fun and exciting!
