Hackers forced Al Jazeera (both the Arabic and English news sites) to close temporarily, and Western capitals shun the highly sought after news source.

Silent Spring
Ahmed Mardawi was barely two months old when the first Iraq war started in 1991. That winter the Israeli army imposed a curfew on the West Bank and moved in force into Hable's streets, where the first Intifada still smoldered. A sound bomb was detonated just outside the house where the Mardawis sheltered with their newborn. The baby started crying and developed a fever; when his father tried to take him to the hospital in nearby Qalqiliya, the local army commander army refused. Ahmed survived but lost his hearing.

A global wave of protests against the US-led war on Iraq continued for the eighth consecutive day with thousands of people expressing their anger and rejection of the campaign unleashed last Thursday.

911 Families Say Lashing Out Is Not the Answer
When her 37-year-old nephew was killed during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre, Valerie Lucznikowska was broken with despair. When President George W. Bush began to speak about America's response, her trauma was amplified.

Why Britain Wants This War
"The reality is that Britain is being asked to embark on a war without agreement in any of the international bodies of which we are a leading partner - not NATO, not the European Union and, now, not the Security Council. The US can afford to go it alone, but Britain is not a superpower..."

Reasons for War Examined
"We must not allow ourselves to be drawn into a trial of the causes of the war, for our position is that no grievances or policies will justify resort to aggressive war. It is utterly renounced and condemned as an instrument of policy."

Protests on the Streets Offer Hope to Dissenters
If the United States-led war on Iraq confirms that the world is in the era of the hyperpower, unprecedented global street-level protests hold out hope against feelings of helplessness.

US 'Precision' Bomb Destroys Civilian Bus
The United States has admitted responsibility for striking a civilian bus inside Western Iraq...

US Remembers Geneva Convention
Are US prisoners of war more equal than the Iraqi prisoners in the custody of US-led forces? The answer seems to be yes, given the contrasting reactions to images of US prisoners of war captured yesterday.

Anti-US Sentiment in Arab World Soars to New Heights
"There is an overwhelming sense that the US is not an honest broker when it comes to Middle East peace," Zogby said, "and that shows itself in every single poll we do."

Arab League Demands Withdrawal of US-Led Forces
Arab foreign ministers condemned on Monday the "aggression" against Iraq and called for the "immediate and unconditional withdrawal" of "invasion forces" from the country.

David Meets Goliath
The United States has the ability to kill off any nation on the planet. The biggest bombs, the biggest budget and the biggest army can destroy others in a number of ways. The US military is spoilt for choice when it comes to weaponry.

Oil As a Weapon of Power
"Controlling Iraq is about oil as power, rather than oil as fuel," Michael Renner said. "Control over the Arabian Gulf translates into control over Europe, Japan and China."

Hollywood Artists Use Oscars to Decry US War on Iraq
Well-known US filmmaker Michael Moore used his award-acceptance speech to launch a violent attack on US President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq. "We live in fictitious times," he said.

Unedited Videotape Is Raw, Painful - and Devastating

Fighting for Their Independence
The Anglo-American war now being fought in the Middle East is without question the most flagrant act of aggression carried out by a British government in modern times.

'And Here's Tommy Franks, the Children's Entertainer...'
It does all make sense. We're flattening the place because we're committed to rebuilding it. To prove this another rebuilding contract was handed out Wednesday to Dick Cheney's old company.

A War in Which Everybody Appears to Be Under Fire
The road to Baghdad, the allied - or, to be precise, the Anglo-American - forces are finding out, is not strewn with roses but weighed down with bodies and riddled with uncertainties.

The Linguistic Bombardment
Getting the camel through the eye of the needle is a very manageable task if we are talking about American language used during the ongoing war in Iraq. Indeed, you can get an elephant through the smallest of openings since the premise is nothing less than contempt for humanity's intelligence.

Gulf States May Be Next: British MP
"Here in the Houses of Parliament there are people who have never set foot in an Arab country openly discussing the partition of Gulf states," British Member of Parliament, George Galloway, said in telephone interview from London.

An Unjust and an Evil War

Saddam Urges His People to Be Patient

Editorial: Bush Is to Blame
President Bush's manic belief that he is right and the rest of the world wrong vis-a-vis Saddam Hussein made it inevitable that he should assume that the US - and only the US - has an unchangeable right to do what it wants with Iraq.

Arabs Don't Take Kindly to Those Who Hurt Their Pride
It is proving to be a war of miscalculations for the United States and Britain. The increasing lines on the faces of President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair clearly show a mounting uneasiness within themselves.
