President Bush, in his speech before launching his attack on Iraq, was doing his best to look and sound like John Wayne, but ended up reminding us of Yosemite Sam. His words confirmed that there is a huge difference between the political values of the West and those of the Wild West. The United States under Bush's leadership has embarked on a shameful imperialistic misadventure in Iraq.
The true purpose of the war on Iraq is not the disarmament of Iraq or its links with Al-Qaeda. Everything about this war lacks legitimacy.
So, we must not forget, does the Bush government itself (he lost the election and still became president). Is this war about democracy? Hogwash. Protests around the world, from America's allies, business and the media have been unsuccessful. So much for the voice of freedom. The problem is, Bush thinks he can deal with the world on the basis of his limited narrow-minded knowledge of it.
Now that is a scary thought. I also refuse to believe that he is doing this based on his "Christian" teachings. His version of Christianity is like Osama Bin Laden's madrasas version of Islam. All I can see is that the heads of the Catholic, Coptic, Orthodox, Anglican and Maronite churches denounced the war in addition to Christian leaders such as Chirac and Schroeder. These are all good Christians.
Bush tried to add legitimacy to this war but failed miserably. He spent much time and effort chasing a second UN Security Council resolution and he failed again. Only then did he claim a second resolution was unimportant anyway. Now he has gone to war against the will of the UN to enforce a UN resolution. What a farce.
The rodeo show Bush is conducting must stop. He must not be allowed to hijack the will of people of the world. The Freedom Iraq campaign must come at a respectable price. What Bush is doing now is beginning to prompt calls for the liberation of America.
