Albuquerque, NM - The New Mexico Deaf News proudly endorses Senator John Kerry for President of the United States of America.
Senator John Kerry (D-MA) has two decades of service in Congress as a strong advocate for the civil rights of all Americans, including Americans with disabilities. His record speaks for itself: over twenty years of building a better America for all of her citizens, regardless of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or disability.
His record, which is publicly available, demonstrates a real commitment, not just lip service, to civil rights. He has stated, "Every American should have the opportunity to succeed and to live the American dream. Discrimination has no place in a nation founded on the principles of freedom from persecution. The United States must continue to be a beacon of light throughout the world, and we should always fight to make our great country even freer. As a United States Senator, I consider it one of my most important obligations to fight for the civil rights of all Americans."
During his presidential campaign, he established a National Steering Committee of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans to provide substantive policy guidance and outreach recommendations to the 27 million Americans with hearing loss. The Co-Chairs of the National Steering Committee are Gregory Hlibok and Judy Stout. This Steering Committee has been an invaluable resource to the campaign, and is proof that a Kerry-Edwards Administration would hire qualified persons with disabilities in key positions.
