At
HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital we are dedicated to restoring or maximizing function and independence in patients who have temporary or permanent physical disability resulting from injury or illness. We treat and improve the function of status post CVAs (strokes), amputations, spinal cord injury, total joint replacements, neuropathies, brain injuries, neurological disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Guillian Barre, Parkinson's Disease, and even generalized weakness, provided there is a medical reason.
It is important to point out that admission criteria into an acute rehabilitation hospital are the same as an acute hospital. Unlike a skilled nursing facility we do not require a 3 day stay in an acute hospital for admission and patients receive therapy 5 to 7 days a week.
EVALUATION AND TREATMENT
Each patient has an individualized care plan that is reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that realistic goals are being achieved. The rehabilitation team consists of:
-
Physician
- Physical therapist
- Speech/Language pathologist
- Occupational therapy
- Respiratory therapist
- Case manager
- Dietitian
- Rehabilitation nurse
- Patient/Family
CLOTHING
We suggest wearing casual, comfortable clothes that allow easy movement for therapy. Since patients are out of their rooms all day, hospital gowns are not worn. Clothing should be labeled with the patient's name, and all valuables should be left at home. Patients should bring the following:
- Seasonal outerwear
- Shirts/blouses with button fronts or pullovers that fit easily over the head
- Comfortable slacks, sweatpants or a sweatsuit
- Athletic shoes with good support
- Undergarments
- Pajamas or gown, robe, slippers
- Toilet articles, such as toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, brush, deodorant, etc.
- Any corrective devices, such as dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids, etc.
TRANSPORTATION
If you are in an acute care hospital, discuss transportation arrangements with your discharge planner/social worker.
