Therapeutic Objectives
- Provide a quality rehabilitation program based on individual and family needs
- Restore the patient's abilities to their maximum level of function
- Educate the patient and family about the rehabilitation process
- Provide ongoing psychosocial support in a therapeutic environment
- Provide follow-up and referral to other resources to support the patient's continued recovery
Program Phases
The rehabilitation program is divided into three levels:
- Acute rehabilitation -- an intensive physical, cognitive and psychosocial rehabilitation based on a comprehensive evaluation and geared toward a functional lifestyle, behavioral management and community re-entry.
- Day treatment -- an intensive interdisciplinary therapy program that can stand alone or be used as as step down from inpatient care, for patients who do not (or no longer) need 24-hour nursing care.
- Outpatient rehabilitation -- individualized, highly specific treatment designed to continue the patient's progress toward maximum independence.
Interdisciplinary Team
To meet the wide-ranging needs of our patients, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital has assembled a team of rehabilitation professionals with the ability to pinpoint specific needs and set goals in order to maximize recovery. Directed by a physician, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, this team may include the following:
- Rehabilitation nurse
- Case manager
- Occupational therapist
- Nutritionist -- as needed

- Speech/Language pathologist
- Physical therapist
- Respiratory therapist -- as needed

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital offers several free clinics as a service to the community. These clinics are designed to screen individuals and make recommendations for services that may be beneficial to help improve safety, function and quality of life.
Second Chance Stroke Clinic
Anyone who has had a stroke recently or sometime in the past is invited to attend.
This clinic is offered on the second Thursday of every month from 3-5 PM.
Fall Prevention and Rehabilitation Clinic
Anyone who may be having trouble with dizzy spells, falls or difficulty walking is invited to attend. This clinic is offered on the third Thursday of every other month, from 4-5 PM.
Spasticity Clinic
Anyone who is experiencing increased muscle tone or tightness due to a medical condition is invited to attend. Medical conditions may include: brain injury, spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's Disease. This clinic is offered on the third Thursday of every other month, from 4-5 PM.
Amputee Clinic
Anyone who has experienced an amputation is invited to attend. The Amputee Clinic staff includes an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, case managers, and local orthotic/prosthetic professionals. This clinic is offered two times each month from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM.
